Chalonnes sur Loire (continued)

While driving on the corniche angevine, before reaching the village of Chaudefonds sur Layon, you will bump into the St Barber Chapel, which used to be the parish of the local coal-miners.

This roman-byzantine Church, which dates back to the 19th Century, owes its survival to a group of volunteers and regularly hosts cultural events such as exhibitions and concerts.

A little further on the left, after the small village of Ardenay, you will see a wooden trestle, which was built in 2008 in order to signpost the former coal mine of the Malecots. This mine closed in 1964.

When continuing to Rochefort sur Loire, you should stop at the panorama which overlooks both the Loire and the Louet. There, the local aviator René Gasnier made his first attempts to fly in 1908.
